Oasis

Bishop Curry - Founder at 10 years old

Texas, USA

Young inventor, Bishop Curry, sees a problem and fixes it. When a baby in an over-heated car died in his community, Bishop realized the need for a solution. The Oasis is a device that senses when a car overheats with a young child inside and leaps into action. This device has the potential to save lives and prevent tragic deaths, like that of the young child in Texas. Bishop believes in the power of science to change the world and has given talks about not letting age and lack of resources limit your dreams.

Inspired by the inventiveness of this young man, Kebloom enquired into the functionality of the Oasis.

1) How would you best describe Oasis?

I would describe Oasis as a device designed to prevent small children from dying in hot cars. The device identifies if a child has been left in a car seat, if the car has stopped moving and/or is heating up. In the event of this, the device blows cold air on the child and calls their parents. If parents do not respond, Oasis contacts the police.

“The device identifies if a child has been left in a car seat, if the car has stopped moving and/or is heating up.”

2) Where is your business based?

We are based in McKinney, Texas.

3)    How old were you when you began inventing?

I started this project when I was 10 years old.  I am now 13.

“The advice I would give to aspiring inventors is not to give up even when it gets difficult.”

4) What inspired Oasis?

Oasis was born when a baby died in a hot car in our city. This was a terrible incident, motivating me to invent a device that would ensure it wouldn’t happen again.

5) Who supports you with your business?

My family, first and foremost, supports me.

6) What advice would you give to social entrepreneurs/inventors?

The advice I would give to aspiring inventors is not to give up even when it gets difficult.

7) To what extent would a platform like Kebloom have helped your achieve your dreams?

Kebloom would have helped me harness business skills and to think of more ways in which to market/sell my product. For instance, I’m now considering the mass production of the Oasis for parents with small children.

8) What has been the best part about running your business?

The best part has been working with engineers.

9) What has been the most challenging part?

The most challenging part has been waiting on funding to move onto the next steps of building and selling my product.

10) What skills do you feel you have developed since becoming a business owner?

I feel like overwhelmingly I have developed the skill of public speaking.

…and anything else you’d like to add!
